Lisbon, 13 October (Inforpress) – The leader of the Unitary Democratic Coalition (CDU), Luís Cardoso, of Cape Verdean origin, secured re-election as councillor for the Odemira city council in the local elections held on Sunday in Portugal.

Speaking to Inforpress, Luís Cardoso, who arrived in Odemira in 1994 at the age of 20, now aged 54, lamented the fact that the left-wing coalition, formed by the Portuguese Communist Party (PCP) and the Ecologist Party Os Verdes (PEV), which had two councillors in 2021, was left with only one mandate.

"(...) I was elected councilor, but the outlook isn't good due to the composition of the executive branch. I certainly accept the defeat; the result was bad, as we lost an elected official, but our commitment to the people of Odemir remains unwavering," said the municipal employee and current councilor without portfolios for the CDU.

Also for the CDU, Cape Verdean Jakilson Pereira, born in São Salvador do Mundo (Santiago), was re-elected to the Parish Council Assembly of Águas Livres, and was not elected to the Municipal Assembly of Amadora.
