Praia, Jul 8 (Inforpress) - The national secretary for Climate Action has set ‘ambitious goals’ to tackle climate change, aiming to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and expand renewable energies to 100 percent (%) by 2024.

Alexandre Rodrigues said that the central objective is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 18 per cent and 24 per cent by 2030, to increase the share of renewable energies in the energy mix to more than 50 per cent by the same year and to approach 100 per cent by 2040.

These goals were presented during the national forum on gender and climate change, organised by the Cape Verdean Institute for Gender Equality and Equity (ICIEG), in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment.

Alexandre Rodrigues emphasised that in order to achieve these goals the country must rely on ‘effective technical coordination’, ensured by the National Secretariat for Climate Action, and on ‘strong political guidance’ led by the Interministerial Council, chaired by the Prime Minister.
