Pontão de Santa Maria: One year later, a promise of a new infrastructure and the fight against those affected

Santa Maria, Sal, 10 Out (Inforpress) – A year after the partial destruction of its "iconic" pontão by a tropical wave on 10 Outubro, Santa Maria, on the island of Sal, lives a mixture of hope and frustration.
The old wooden pier, which was an ‘unmistakable’ tourist symbol, succumbed to the force of the sea, leaving a void in the community.

Despite the difficulties faced, the main source of encouragement for residents is the promise of reconstruction.
Recently, in mid-September 2025, the Government formalized the commitment to issue a contract for the construction of a new bridge.
