Basketball: Clubs from South Santiago criticize the federation and show their unavailability for national championships

Praia, 08 (Inforpress) - Basketball clubs in the Santiago Sul sports region expressed "deep concern" about recent events related to Afrobasket 2025 and the national championships, and announced that they will not participate in national competitions.

According to the statement sent to Inforpress, the clubs expressed concern about what they classify as a drop in the “quality of preparation” of the senior men's national team for AfroBasket 2025, after hearing from several key figures in the national team's preparation and participation.

According to the document, the situation reported at the extraordinary general assembly of the Cape Verdean Federation (FCBB), on September 27, revealed “sensitive occurrences” that the clubs chose to reproduce, out of respect for the athletes and the technical team.

The signatory clubs emphasized that the national team, considered among the eight best in Africa and a participant in the last FIBA World Cup, "can never lower the level" of organization and planning recorded in the last AfroBasket, held in Angola.
