Praia, July 22 (Inforpress) – Today, the president of the Regulatory Agency for Social Communication (ARC) reaffirmed her commitment to independent, transparent regulation that promotes fundamental rights, in particular, freedom of expression and the right to information.
Arminda Barros made these statements at the opening of the IX Meeting of the Platform of Regulatory Entities of Social Communication (PER) which brings together, in the city of Praia, from today until Thursday, 24th, Portuguese-speaking delegations to discuss “Democracy, Media and Digital Platforms”.
"We live in a time of rapid technological and social transformation. The digital environment has brought significant risks to the integrity of information, freedom of expression, and the healthy functioning of democratic institutions," he noted.
Faced with phenomena such as disinformation, algorithmic manipulation, hate speech, and the loss of trust in the media, according to the president of the ARC, it is imperative to rethink the role of regulatory bodies.
