2026 General Election: CNE announces final election results and confirms PAICV victory

Praia, 29 May (Inforpress) – Today, the National Electoral Commission (CNE) released the final results of the general election, indicating that there were a total of 416,096 registered voters, of whom 193,329 cast their votes, resulting in an abstention rate of 222,767 voters.

The figures were presented by the president of the CNE, Maria do Rosário Gonçalves, during a press conference in the city of Praia, which confirmed the victory of the African Party for the Independence of Cabo Verde (PAICV) in the parliamentary elections of 17 May 2026.

According to the official, of the total number of votes cast, there were 2,709 blank votes and 1,893 invalid votes.

According to the final results, the PAICV received 90,660 votes, the Movement for Democracy (MpD) received 84,458 votes, the Independent and Democratic Cape Verdean Union (UCID) received 9,812 votes, whilst the Labour and Solidarity Party (PTS) received 3,268 votes and the People’s Party (PP) received 529 votes.
