Lisbon, May 18 (Inforpress) –Today, the Cape Verdean Association of Lisbon (ACL) today congratulated the African Party for the Independence of Cabo Verde (PAICV) and its leader, Francisco Carvalho, who won the legislative elections with an absolute majority, according to provisional data.

In a statement sent to Inforpress, the institution led by Dulceneia Sousa highlighted that this result “reflects the sovereign will of the Cape Verdean people, exercised in an electoral act that, once again, honoured Cabo Verde’s democratic tradition – recognised as one of the strongest and most exemplary on the African continent”.

“The Cape Verdean Association also salutes all parties and candidates who participated in this democratic process, as well as the Cape Verdean people, who, both in the islands and in the diaspora, fulfilled their civic duty with maturity and a strong sense of responsibility,” the statement added.

To the new Government, led by Prime Minister-designate Francisco Carvalho, the ACL wished “wisdom, determination and vision to face the challenges linked to Cabo Verde’s development – from youth employability to the energy transition, from valuing the diaspora to strengthening social cohesion among all the islands”.
