Praia, 07 May (Inforpress) - Cape Verdean associations of people with disabilities praise the progress made 50 years on, but warn of the challenges that remain in the country for people with disabilities and which are aimed at effective inclusion.
The president of the Association of Parents and Friends of Children and Young People with Special Needs (Colmeia), Isabel Moniz, shared with Inforpress how the organisation has faced and combated these challenges throughout a trajectory of growth and awareness.
According to the president, significant progress has been made over the 50 years of Cabo Verde's independence, with the creation of specific laws, the training of specialists in the field of rehabilitation and the establishment of partnerships with other civil society organisations.
“During these 50 years of independence, we've been working hard to ensure that these answers are given, because it's a public policy to improve the quality of life of citizens with disabilities, so that we really do have an inclusive country," said Isabel Moniz.
