Mindelo, Aug. 5 (Inforpress) – Minister of the Sea João do Carmo announced today that Cape Verde is expected to receive the vessel Eugénio Tavares later this year, followed by another ship in 2027, as part of investments aimed at strengthening inter-island maritime connectivity.

The announcement was made in São Vicente during a visit to the Djabraba, a vessel intended to provide a maritime link between Brava and Fogo, once the technical and administrative formalities with the Maritime and Port Institute (IMP) have been completed.

"There is a strong possibility that we will receive another vessel this year, the Eugénio Tavares. It is a large Ro-Ro (Roll-on/Roll-off) ship capable of berthing at any port in the country. Once it enters service, it will provide much-needed relief to Cabo Verde's maritime transport sector," the minister said.

João do Carmo reported that the “Eugénio Tavares” has already been acquired and is currently in China, undergoing technical modifications to carry up to 250 passengers and operate in the specific conditions of Cape Verdean waters.
