Praia, Jan 12 (Inforpress) – Bishop Dom Arlindo Furtado today called for respect and a focus on the common good among political parties during the 2026 elections, urging the presentation of projects that benefit the country “without mutual offense.”
Speaking to the press after presenting the traditional New Year’s greetings to the President of the Republic, Cardinal Arlindo Furtado stressed that during campaign and election periods, some tensions are natural, but called for moderation, avoiding exaggerations, personal attacks or false accusations.
“We would like all political parties to exist not for themselves, but in the service of Cape Verde, seeking, each in its own way and according to its best judgment, the common good, and striving for truth and justice,” he said, emphasizing the importance of conducting the 2026 elections in a respectful manner.
Dom Arlindo Furtado also reiterated that although the Catholic Church does not deal directly with the administration of the country, it plays “an important role” in the formation of individuals, encouraging values that contribute to the common good and conscious participation in public life.
