City of Praia, Mar 23 (Inforpress) – The National Electoral Commission (CNE) assured on Saturday that the voter registration process in Cabo Verde is proceeding normally and under permanent oversight, in accordance with the mechanisms established in the Electoral Code.
In a statement, the CNE clarified that, under Article 51 of the Electoral Code, the primary oversight of voter registration is a “right and duty” of political parties, exercised through their permanent delegates within the Electoral Registration Commissions (CRE).
The note follows statements by the president of the Independent and Democratic Cape Verdean Union (UCID – opposition), João Santos Luís, who last week questioned the transparency of the process, pointing to an alleged “absence of delegates” from the CNE during field operations.
On this point, the institution specified that CNE delegates have a “complementary and temporary” role, while the commission focuses its action on the central supervision of the Electoral Registration Database.
