Praia, Dec 19 (Inforpress) – Minister of Health Jorge Figueiredo announced on Thursday that Cabo Verde is advancing in the digitalization of the National Health System, including a unique patient identification code, digital medical records, and electronic prescriptions, centralizing data and improving healthcare delivery.

According to the minister, speaking at the handover of 24 telemedicine units, each citizen will have a unique code granting access to their medical history, including laboratory tests, imaging exams, and treatments performed, ensuring greater security and control over clinical data.

“With this innovation, healthcare professionals will have full access to patient information regardless of the hospital or health center attended, reducing duplicate test requests and optimizing treatment,” the minister explained, noting that digitalization will also enable better planning of public health policies.

The project also includes the implementation of electronic prescriptions, aimed at facilitating access to medicines in pharmacies, avoiding unnecessary travel, and ensuring that patients receive all prescribed drugs without errors.
