Cidade Velha, Apr 21 (Inforpress) – The President of the Republic, José Maria Neves, today called for collaboration among national institutions to transform the historic Aéropostale hydrobase, in Calheta de São Martinho, into a space for tourism, research and heritage preservation.
“There now needs to be a strong partnership among the city council, the Ministry of Culture, through the Institute of Cultural Heritage, and the Ministry of Education, to further support researchers and transform this space,” said the head of state.
José Maria Neves, who visited the historic Aéropostale hydrobase this morning, in Calheta de São Martinho, a municipality in Ribeira Grande de Santiago, highlighted the importance of the site as one of the country's great heritage treasures, defending a strong institutional partnership for its valorization.
In his opinion, this is a space that represents an important chapter in Cape Verdean history, and whose preservation has been ensured thanks to the continuous work of researchers at Jean Piaget University.
