Lisbon, 2 July (Inforpress) – The President of the Republic stated that Cabo Verde will face Argentina this Friday “without any fear”, maintaining that the Tubarões Azuis will take to the pitch with the same determination they have shown throughout the World Cup.
‘Our mission in this World Cup is to take on the champions. We have no fears and we are going into it with the same faith and hope, and above all with the same energy, the same dedication, the same character and the same determination with which we have been building Cabo Verde over the past 50 years,’ José Maria Neves told journalists in Coimbra (Portugal).
The Cape Verdean head of state emphasised that statistical probabilities are not decisive, arguing that the performance of the team coached by Pedro Brito – better known as Bubista – will depend above all on their attitude on the playing field.
‘For us, the statistical odds don’t matter. What matters is the sweat we leave on the playing field, to show our energy, resilience and ability to get the job done. We’re set to face yet another champion, as has become the norm in this World Cup,’ he said, confident of Cabo Verde’s victory.
