Earth tremor felt in São Vicente and Santo Antão without official reaction

Mindelo, Feb 10 (Inforpress) – An earth tremor was felt on Monday night on the islands of São Vicente and Santo Antão, with no official information so far from the authorities regarding the magnitude or epicentre of the seismic event.

The tremor occurred at around 21:12 and was felt in several areas of São Vicente, including Chã de Marinha, Monte Sossego, Bela Vista, Madeiralzinho, Vila Nova and Fonte Francês, according to residents’ accounts.

“I was sitting on the sofa watching a classic match of the Portuguese league when I heard a noise that sounded like a truck passing close to my house. Only afterwards did I feel the windows, the sofa and the television shaking,” said José Mota.

Similarly, Arlinda Gomes, a resident of the Fonte Francês area, said that upon feeling the tremor her first reaction was to look at her son, who immediately asked whether it was an earthquake.
