São Vicente: Minister of the Sea alert to “continuous shortage” of fishing resources in Cabo Verde waters

Mindelo, Oct 7 (Inforpress) – The Minister of the Sea drew attention, Thursday, in Mindelo, to the “continuous shortage” of fishing resources in Cabo Verde’s waters, which could be a warning not only for export, but for working with data.

Abraão Vicente made the warning while presiding over the National Workshop for Strategic Consultation of the Country Programming Framework (CPP) FAO-Cape Verde 2023-2027, organized in partnership with the United Nations Organization and the Government.

“Although we have 99% of the national territory at sea, there are increasingly scarce resources in it,” he said, adding that he was alerted by the “largest Cabo Verdean exporting companies”, Frescomar and Atunlo, which, according to the same source, currently has “less than one third” of what they usually have by this time of year to do their work.

Abraão Vicente believes it is a warning not only to the export sector, but also to work with data and “to have a more consolidated strategy of exploitation than there is, but also to explore beyond what has been the territory of exploitation of the fishing industry”.
