Mindelo, Aug 2 (Inforpress) – The Brazilian Navy Frigate “União” will be on Wednesday at the Pier of Porto Grande, in Mindelo, for exercises with the Cabo Verdean Coast Guard, as part of an operation with the Gulf of Guinea countries.
This information was announced, in a statement to Inforpress, by the Frigate captain and head of the Brazil Naval Advisory Mission in Cabo Verde, Bruno Martins, who explained that this exercise is part of operation Guinex-II, which began on June 18 when the Frigate left the Naval Base of Rio de Janeiro.
According to the person responsible, joint exercises and training will be carried out with the Cabo Verdean Coast Guard, of which a search and rescue exercise stands out. “First aid, combating breakdowns, communications and approaches to vessels in suspicion of an irregularity. In addition to these, there is a provision for the use of the AS-350 (Squirrel) helicopter in a search and rescue exercise, in coordination with the Joint Rescue Center Coordination of Cabo Verde (JRCC-CV),” the statement read.
The head of the Brazilian Naval Advisory Mission in Cabo Verde has said that this operation with the Gulf of Guinea countries, called “Guinex-II”, runs until August 20, and aims to promote interoperability with the navies and coastguards of these countries and strengthen the bonds of trust between the Brazilian Navy and the West African coast countries, through exercises at sea and at the port, which can increase maritime safety in the South Atlantic.
