São Miguel: Mayor announces extension of women’s agricultural project to four more locations

Calheta, Nov 6 (Inforpress) – The Mayor of São Miguel has announced the extension of the agricultural project for women under way in Ribeira de São Miguel to four additional localities in the countryside of Santiago.

Herménio Fernandes made this announcement Tuesday at the unveiling of the plaque marking the official launch of the Ribeira de São Miguel socio-economic inclusion and development project, launched in March 2018, in a ceremony co-chaired by the Minister of Family and Social Inclusion, Maritza Rosabal.

The project, which directly benefits 47 women and indirectly 557 from other rural areas of Ribeira de São Miguel, according to the Mayor, aims to reduce poverty, promote employment and empower women in Ribeira de São Miguel.

The project, which after training, seed testing, water mobilization, production and marketing of some products in the experimental phase, which has already benefited 10 women, now enters the third and final phase, which is the creation of a social store, micro-credit and extension to the remaining 37 beneficiaries.
