Santo Antão: Socio-economic situation in Santo Antão Island “is worrying” – CPR-SA of PAICV

Ribeira Grande, Jul 4 (Inforpress) – The Regional Political Commission of Santo Antão (CPR-SA) of the African Party of Independence of Cabo Verde (PAICV, opposition party) considered this Wednesday at a press conference in Ribeira Grande that “the socio-economic situation  in Santo Antão Island is worrying”.

“The purchasing power of the population has been decreasing, aggravated by the generalized rise in the prices of products,” said the president of CPR-SA, Saturnino Baptista, who also referred to difficulties faced by farmers and livestock farmers, by head of household who “claim for a day at work” and the young people who “are forced to leave the island for lack of alternatives”.

According to Saturnino Baptista, “the campaign promises remain forgotten” and the “announced resources transferred from the Government to the City Halls have not had the desired effects nor brought the promised happiness” because “they are not reflected in job creation, nor increase in family income. ”

The CPR-SA leader said that there is a lack of products on the market, fishermen continue to wait for promised solutions and denounce the lack of repair and / or construction of trawlers and other fishing support infrastructures.
