Santo Antão: City Hall available to fund monographs and theses on island history – Orlando Delgado

City of Pombas, Paul, Sep 26 (Inforpress) – The president of the Santo Antão Municipalities Association (AMSA), Orlando Delgado, said in Paul that the island’s City Halls are “available to fund monographs and theses” on the history of the island.

During the closing ceremony of the History Colloquium that ended Wednesday in Paul, Orlando Delgado said he found that most students from Santo Antão who study history write monographs about things that “have nothing to do with the reality of the island.” Hence the challenge to change things in the future with the City Halls support.

The Mayor of Ribeira Grande  said that Santo Antão has “a rich history” and cited some cases that may deserve the attention from university students, namely the fact that the first black general of all Lusophony is originally from Santo Antão, namely the fact that the first black general of all Lusophony was born in Santo Antão, most of the people who were in the armed struggle for national liberation came from Santo Antão.

Other examples cited by Orlando Delgado are the political disputes cases between the Ribeira Grande and Paul counties, in addition to the August 31 issue that, according to Orlando Delgado, has a political weapon between the political parties and needs research and dissemination “in an impartial manner”.
