Porto Novo: ADPM develops new experience to help farmers face water difficulties

Porto Novo, Aug 24 (Inforpress) – The Association for the Defense of the Heritage of Mértola, Portugal, continues to test experiments in water mobilization in the municipality of Porto Novo, aiming to help farmers face water difficulties for agriculture.

The experiments are being tested in the framework of the agroforestry systems project in Santo Antão that is being implemented on this island, reported today the Association for the Defense of the Heritage of Mértola, highlighting “the use of hydrogel”, which allows the storage of “large amount of water”.

“We all know the intense drought and the difficulties of using water for agricultural purposes in Santo Antão. To deal with this problem, the agroforestry systems project is testing alternatives to improve water storage,” said the Association, in a statement.

The tests are being done in the experimental fields of the project, located in Casa de Meio, Água das Caldeiras and Planalto Norte.

Also in the scope of the agroforestry systems project of Santo Antão, this Portuguese non-governmental organization has been developing other actions aimed at combating climate change in Porto Novo, highlighting the construction of small reservoirs (cocoons) for water mobilization.
