Praia, Jul 1 (Inforpress) – The former President of the Republic and former fighter for independence, Pedro Pires, said Saturday in an interview with Inforpress that Joaquim Pedro Silva was a reference for his spirit of sacrifice, passion and dedication to the cause of Independence.
Reacting to his death on Friday, Joaquim Pedro Silva, better known as Baró, Pedro Pires said that with the physical disappearance of this former fighter for independence, Cabo Verde loses a son who dedicated his youth to the national cause.
“Cabo Verde loses one of the fighters for its independence, for its dignity, and for the recovery, above all of its dignity as a free country, sovereign and country that wants, and continues to fight, to decide and have the reins of its future in its own hands, “said the former PR of Cabo Verde, referring that he will always remember the Cabo Verdean patriot who was Baró, one of his closest friends.
According to Pedro Pires the friendship with Joaquim Pedro Silva began very early still in São Vicente, when both studied in the Gil Eanes High School. After having separated they met in Lisbon, Portugal, when Joaquim Pedro Silva went to perform the obligatory military service at a time when Pedro Pires prepared its clandestine exit of Portugal.
