Praia, Mar 27 (Inforpress) – The president of OMCV today highlighted the role and “strong contribution” that Cabo Verdean women have made in the construction and development of the country, emphasizing, however, that after 38 years the challenges still persist.
Idalina Gonçalves, president of the Cabo Verdean Women’s Organization (OMCV) made the following statement today to Inforpress on the Cabo Verdean Women’s Day, celebrated annually on March 27 with the aim of honoring all women inside and outside of the country.
The day for the celebration of Cabo Verdean Women, she recalled, was instituted on the day that the OMCV was officially born, which this year celebrates its 38 years of existence, an institution that was created to guarantee the social, economic and cultural well-being of women, families and Cabo Verdean society in general, through the defense and promotion of the women rights integrated into a gender perspective.
“This date is of singular importance for us because it marks the birth of a new era for Cabo Verde, it was with some of our impute that Cabo Verde managed to create a date that goals to value and honor the woman and confirm the importance that this class has in our country”, he said.
