Praia, Mar 16 (Inforpress) – The new President of the International Institute of Portuguese Language (IILP) said this Thursday that he hopes to mobilize Member States for a stronger and more active participation in promoting the common interest in the use of the Portuguese language .
João Laurentino Neves, who was speaking to journalists after a meeting with the President of the National Assembly for greetings and discussing the forms of partnership between the two institutions, maintained that also in the matter of languages there is great competition for an international statement.
“We know that English has a very high preponderance in all areas of activity, but that the Portuguese language is also internationally recognized today as a strategic language. This stems from the power that each of our countries has from a regional point of view, but also from an international point of view”, he argued.
João Laurentino Neves stressed that the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries is a very strong and unique organization, which is why he considers that the Portuguese language as a language of international communication has a way to go.
