Mário Silva defends institutionalization of the National Book and Reading Day

Praia, Jul 9 (Inforpress) – The director of the “Leitura” magazine, Mário Silva, defended today in an interview with Inforpress the institutionalization of National Book and Reading Day in Cabo Verde.

Mário Silva, who was speaking about the launch of the 6th edition of the “Leitura” magazine, said that the book magazines and newspapers are “very important vehicles for access to knowledge”, even in this era in which the importance of the Internet is also highlighted.

“The Internet demands that people know how to read, in the broad sense of the word, read interpreting, and perceive the message,” explained Mário Silva, for whom betting on books and literature must be reinforced by a more robust book and reading policy.

Despite arguing that this issue “has been a weak point of the country,” Mário Silva acknowledges the Government’s announcement to create the National Book and Reading Plan, which, in his view, will make “a great contribution” in this area.
