Praia, Dec 23 (Inforpress) – The PAICV leadership elections held on Sunday had only one candidate, Janira Hopffer Almada, who was re-elected with more than 98% of the party’s militants, according to provisional data.
Janira Hopffer Almada, who was elected in direct elections with more than 50% of voters out of a total of 34.773 militants, said in remarks to the press that the vote went smoothly and with a “good turnout” despite the Christmas season.
“This satisfies us and motivates us to the cause and the fight for a cause that we believe is Cabo Verde. Therefore, at this moment I would like to thank all those who believed and I appeal to all to put the country’s interest first,” she said.
In her statement, Janira Hopffer Almada called on all militants to contribute to “strengthening” the party in a unity of cause, rooted in principles and cohesion between people and communities.
The re-elected PAICV president has promised to lead the largest opposition party to a new “start” that will guide them to “much more satisfactory” results in order of regaining Cabo Verdean confidence in Amílcar Cabral’s party.
