Praia, Jan 16 (Inforpress) – The Government admitted today that the situation of the increase in the price of wheat is “very worrying”. He advances that an opinion from the National Secretariat for Food and Nutritional Security does not recommend the continuity of compensation due to large costs.
The statement was made by the Minister of Agriculture and Environment, Gilberto Silva, on the sidelines of the ceremony of delivery of 1,455 tons of rice by the Japanese embassy, when confronted by the media about the continuation or not of the Government subsidy to the only company that imports wheat (Moave).
The official considered that the situation is “very worrying”, but stressed that prices have increased internationally, remembering, on the other hand, that the crisis continues.
“Till today, the Government has spent about 151 million escudos on the financial compensation policy, we will continue to subsidize the corn for another three months, also considering the preparation of the new production cycle in terms of livestock”, he said.
