Government sensitivity is high in relation to the increase in the price of wheat derivatives – Prime Minister

Praia, Jan 18 (Inforpress) – The Prime Minister, Ulisses Correia e Silva, said this Tuesday that the “Government’s sensitivity is high” in relation to the increase in the price of wheat derivatives, adding that the Executive will make an assessment and make the best decision.

“The level of sensitivity is high, not least because we have been subsidizing since practically the beginning of the pandemic. This involved more than 176 million escudos in cereal subsidies, now, during the most inflationary phase caused by the war in Ukraine, we continue to subsidize, not only wheat, but a set of other products”, said the head of government.

Ulisses Correia e Silva, who was speaking to the press after a visit to the premises of the Attorney General’s Office, in the city of Praia, also added that the Government would assess the situation on Wednesday, 18th, and take the best decision.

“Subsidizing again is a possibility that will always be on the table”, guaranteed Ulisses Correia e Silva, recalling that bread is not a scheduled product, which is why he defends the creation of conditions, in fact, so that there is “a better sense of regulation” between the consumer and the producer.
