Wrestling: Matteo Monteiro wins bronze medal at African Championships in Morocco

Praia, 05 May (Inforpress) - Cape Verdean athlete Matteo Monteiro, who lives in the United States of America, won the bronze medal in the minus (-) 86 kilos (kg) category at the African wrestling championships held in Casablanca (Morocco) on Saturday.

In 2024, Matteo Monteiro had already won the gold medal in the -86kg category at the African under-20 wrestling championships in Alexandria (Egypt).

At this event in Morocco, according to Eugene Monteiro, the technical manager of the Creole team, Cabo Verde won two fifth places, achieved by wrestlers João Vicente and Anthony Wesley in the -74kg and -70kg bouts respectively.

The other members of the delegation, Wilson Gomes and Angelina Miranda, finished seventh in the African Wrestling Championships in the -65kg and 62kg categories respectively.
