
Praia City, Feb 26 (Inforpress) – The Cape Verdean Independent and Democratic Union (UCID) welcomed, in a statement released today, the appointment of Dom Teodoro Mendes Tavares as bishop of the Diocese of Santiago.
“This moment represents a significant milestone for the Catholic Church in Cabo Verde and for all those who recognize the fundamental role of the Catholic Church in promoting the values of human dignity, social justice, solidarity, reconciliation and peace,” UCID stated in the communiqué received today by Inforpress.
The political organization highlighted the role of the Diocese of Santiago for its history and spiritual centrality, underscoring the decisive contribution it has played in the moral, cultural and social formation of the Cape Verdean nation.
It also took the opportunity to express its recognition and gratitude to Cardinal Dom Arlindo Furtado for his dedicated and exemplary pastoral service at the head of the Diocese of Santiago and the Church in Cabo Verde.
