“There is no reason for Cabo Verdeans to celebrate May 1st” – José Manuel Vaz

Praia, May 2 (Inforpress) – The president of the Cabo Verde Confederation of Free Trade Unions (CCSL), José Manuel Vaz, said this Wednesday at a press conference that there are no reasons for Cabo Verdean workers to celebrate the  May 1st, International Workers’ Day.

According to the CCSL’s leader, there were three events in Cabo Verde that “overturned” all the historical content commemorating this “important date”.

According to José Manuel Vaz, the first was the approval of Decree-Law No. 9 of 2013, of February 26, the new Career and Wages Career Plan (PCCS), which “deeply divides and discriminates” civil servants in: career regime staff and employment regime officials.

The second event, he added, was the approval of Decree-Law No. 1 of 2016, of February 3, the new Labour Code (CL), which “reduces compensations” for dismissals and unjustified dismissal, “greatly reduces” the payment for overtime and add criteria for the total of overtime worked per week, “higher than that established at international level”.
