The PGR and UNICEF advocate for capacity-building within the judiciary to tackle tax crimes and online abuse of children

Praia, 18 June (Inforpress) – The Prosecutor General, José Landim, and the UNICEF representative in Cabo Verde, David Matern, today called for improved training for legal professionals to enhance the investigation of tax offences and sexual abuse of children.

The officials emphasised that both types of crime have been progressively shifting to the digital sphere, presenting increasingly complex and growing challenges within the national context.

José Landim was speaking to the press on the sidelines of the opening of the training course on the topics “Investigation of sexual offences committed in digital environments” and “Investigation of tax offences and related illegal activities”, which runs until Friday in the city of Praia.

According to the prosecutor general, there is a perception that many individuals and companies continue to evade their tax obligations, a situation which reduces the state’s ability to collect the revenue needed for investment in essential areas such as health, education and security.
