“The nurse is not only taking care of the patient, it is also a voice in defense of healthy people” – Vera Monteiro

Mindelo, May 13 (Inforpress) – The Nursing Superintendent of the Baptista de Sousa Hospital (HBS) in São Vicente defended Sunday that the role of the nurse is not only to take care of the patients, but must also be “a voice to defend the healthy people”.

Vera Monteiro made these considerations in statements to Inforpress, arguing that these words should serve as a motto for these professionals, and is also reflected in the theme chosen worldwide “Nursing a voice to lead: Health for all” to celebrate the International Nurses Day this year, observed on Sunday, 12.

“The nurse is the voice to lead because he/she is close to the people, inside the community, in the hospital, where there is a sick person we are there”, said this person responsible, for whom this voice, as well as defending the people who need it of health care, also “must defend healthy citizens”.

“We are not here just to see the patients, we have to go to the communities to see the healthy people, and show that we can help in health promotion”, she said, noting also the need for health professionals to be “healthy” to be able to give the “best of themselves”.
