Praia, Sep 9 (Inforpress) – PAICV has stated that setting a single rate for customs clearance will “burden” Cabo Verdean families on some islands, stressing that the Government must take this measure “seriously” and without subterfuge for revenue collection.
Cabo Verde’s African Independence Party leader (PAICV, opposition party) Janira Hopffer Almada made these remarks during a press conference this Saturday in Praia about the fall of Cabo Verde’s five positions in the tourism ranking, of the World Economic Forum, released this Wednesday.
Reacting on the implementation of a new customs clearance fee, recently announced by the Government, Janira Hopffer Almada reminded the Government that it has “a diaspora of value”, which has always made its “great contribution” to the development of this country.
This diaspora, he argued, has “contributed greatly” to improving the living conditions of thousands of Cabo Verdean families, at a time considered for two consecutive years of drought, stressing that in this context the Government has not been able to restore purchasing power of the Cabo Verdeans.
