SIACSA denounces “culture of fear” and “modern slavery” in São Vicente’s work environment

Mindelo, Aug 6 (Inforpress) – The president of the Union of Industry, Agriculture, Trade and Related Services (SIACSA) today considered in Mindelo that the “culture of fear” and “modern slavery” are the main problems facing the workers in São Vicente.

Gilberto Lima, who was speaking today at a press conference, said he did not like what he heard from workers, who point to “precariousness in the different sectors of activity, the length of justice in relation to work,“ culture of fear with emphasis for modern slavery ”, violations of values regarding union association,“ exaggerated wage discounts ”, among others.

“All this is happening because of a lack of political or administrative will to appease the precarious labour issues in the country,” he said, adding that SIACSA was “very concerned”.

All these problems, Gilberto Lima says, will be discussed at the end of August, in São Vicente, at the fifth general assembly of workers, which will also serve to elect the local coordinator, who will in turn prepare the fifth union congress, to be held next November 30.
