São Vicente: The ITZIAR II removal operation enters the dismantling phase at Onave

Mindelo, 4 August (Inforpress) – The removal of the ITZIAR II, which sank in Porto Grande Bay, has entered a new phase with the transfer of part of the hull and the wreckage to the Onave, the Maritime and Port Institute (IMP) reported on Monday.

According to a statement from the IMP, the transport and berthing operation was completed safely and without incident, thanks to “rigorous technical planning and excellent coordination” between the authorities and teams involved.

According to the institute, part of the hull and wreckage of the industrial fishing vessel ITZIAR II, which is approximately 55 metres long and has been lying sunken in the bay since 2015, has been transferred to the São Vicente Naval Workshops (Onave) for the vessel to be cut up and finally dismantled.

“Every stage of this project is carried out in strict compliance with the highest safety standards, protecting the workers on site, port operations and the marine ecosystem of Porto Grande Bay,” emphasised the IMP.
