São Vicente: More than 30 families are still in the process of being relocated a year after Tropical Storm Erin

Mindelo, August 11 (Inforpress) – Thirty-six families are still undergoing the resettlement process, a year after Storm Erin hit São Vicente, with the City council and the government ensuring the payment of rents while they await permanent housing.

The information was released today by the Councillor for Civil Protection of the City Council São Vicente, José Carlos da Luz, during a review of the interventions carried out on the island after the storm, which caused damage to homes, access roads, public infrastructure, and drainage and sanitation systems.

According to the mayor, after the storm, 76 families who were left without habitable conditions were rehoused and had to be sent to the shelter. 

“We relocated the families who had been left without homes and were staying at the shelter. We have relocated 76 families, and another 36 families are currently in the process of being relocated,” said José Carlos da Luz.
