Mindelo, Jun 12 (Inforpress) – The President of the Republic has been in Mindelo on Tuesday as an advocate for the decentralization of the 5th July celebrations in friendly countries and the Cabo Verdean diaspora, as Portugal does with the June 10th.
Speaking to Inforpress, on the sidelines of a sporting activity, at the Mindelo Training Center, part of the celebrations of Portugal Day, Camões and Portuguese Communities in Cabo Verde, Jorge Carlos Fonseca said that he had already spoken about this subject with the former Prime Ministers and with the current president of the National Assembly.
“Not only is it not impossible as I have been an advocate that we must decentralize the celebrations of July 5th, Independence Day,” added the Head of State, who does not dismiss the possibility of celebrations in a country where there is a Cabo Verdean diaspora, such as Portugal, the United States, France or Senegal, among others.
“But why not, also, now, in São Nicolau, Brava, Fogo or Santo Antão,” added Jorge Carlos Fonseca, who also considered that the 5th July celebrations have been “institutional, formal and very ritualized “and, for this reason is celebrated “a little distant from the owner of 5th July that belongs to the Cabo Verdeans”.
