São Vicente: Double African champions miss out on international volleyball circuit due to flight issues

Mindelo, 23 July (Inforpress) – The double African champions from The Gambia were unable to take part in the second edition of the international beach volleyball circuit in Mindelo due to difficulties with inter-island flights, the president of the Cape Verdean Volleyball Federation revealed today.

António Rodrigues confirmed that transport problems had prevented several pairs from reaching São Vicente, reducing the number of participants in the race, which got underway late this afternoon at Praia da Laginha.

“The African champion duo arrived in Praia, but were unable to travel to São Vicente and had to return. The same happened with other pairs who were stranded on the island of Sal,” explained the sports official, adding that at the last minute the federation managed to secure the arrival of teams from England and Austria.

The president of the FCV admitted that the high cost of airfares during the summer, as well as the fact that a similar event was taking place in Poland at the same time, also affected the attendance of other teams.
