Porto Novo, Nov 22 (Inforpress) – Porto Novo faces three consecutive years of drought, which have been “painful” for this municipality of Santo Antão, which, however, has had “the support” of some institutions, especially Red Cross of Cabo Verde (CVCV).
The statements are made by the mayor, Aníbal Fonseca, this Thursday, on the act of delivery by the CVCV, a tanker truck to the municipality of Porto Novo, to reinforce supplies to drought-affected areas in this county.
“These years have been painful for us. We have been supported by other institutions, but here it is worth mentioning at least two that have helped us directly in the water supply issue in these three years: Airports and Air Safety (ASA) and Aguas de Ponta Preta (APP). And today we have the CVCV, which puts at the disposal of the Porto Novo City Council a tanker truck for this same purpose,” said the mayor of Porto.
It is also a vehicle equipped to assist the island of Santo Antão in case of fire and to provide training courses in the field of civil protection.
Faced with a severe drought, Porto Novo also relies on CVCV to implement a food security program, which is gaining momentum and will allow the municipality to “build a strong resilience” to cope with drought, explained Aníbal Fonseca.
