Porto Novo, Sep 10 (Inforpress) – Santo Antão will receive investments in the water and sanitation areas in the next three years for around US $ 12 million (about one million two hundred thousand escudos), announced the Minister of Agriculture and Environment.
Gilberto Silva was speaking this Monday in Porto Novo at the workshop opening to launch the first phase of the Santo Antão water and sanitation project, in which the municipalities of Porto Novo, Paul and Ribeira Grande will be able to receive, until 2022, “very structural” investments in these “key sectors” for island development, the official said.
In Porto Novo, a municipality that Gilberto Silva believes is facing a “much more worrying” sanitation situation, the project encompasses the “deep restructuring” of the entire sanitation system, by expanding the sewage system by about 12 kilometers, explained the minister.
In addition, Porto Novo will be awarded a wastewater treatment plant (WWTP), more than 300 home connections and 200 septic tanks in rural areas, Gilberto Silva said. In the water domain, Porto Novo will also benefit from 25 kilometers of water piping, a reservoir of 300 cubic meters and 3.500 home connections, as well as other investments.
