Ribeira Grande, 26 January (Inforpress) – The city of Ponta do Sol gains cultural momentum with the signing of a programme contract between the Government and the City Council of Ribeira Grande for the construction of a cultural centre, strengthening the local public cultural offering.
The programme contract was signed by the Minister for Culture and Creative Industries, Augusto Veiga, and the Mayor of Ribeira Grande, Armindo da Luz, representing a total investment of 11 million escudos.
The Ribeira Grande councillor emphasised that this is a long-standing demand of the population of Ponta do Sol, formerly Vila Maria Pia, which has now been realised with the support of the Government.
According to Armindo da Luz, the new recreational and cultural venue represents a ‘major project’ for the city, not only because of the investment involved, but above all because of the impact it will have on promoting culture and creating new social and community dynamics.
