Santo Antão / Maritime Transport: Minister says he believes the “worst is over” on the Porto Novo / São Vicente line

Porto Novo, Sep 4 (Inforpress) – Tourism and Transport Minister José Gonçalves said today in Santo Antão that the “worst has happened” on the Porto Novo / São Vicente maritime line, marked in recent weeks by “some problems”.

“This is going to get better, the worst is over,” said José Gonçalves, who arrived at the port of Porto Novo this morning, where he was confronted by economic operators about the need to normalize maritime transport between Santo Antão and São Vicente.

The minister explained that his trip to Santo Antão was intended to learn about the situation prevailing in the line and to analyze with the new operator, Cabo Vede Inter-Ilhas (CVI) and with the City Halls, “a solution” that satisfies the needs of both islands.

According to José Gonçalves, the Government is making “profound changes” in inter-island maritime transport, and it is “natural that problems will occur in this transition phase”, which are being “analyzed and overcome”, with a view to “tuning the system”.
