Santa Cruz: National Health Directorate raises awareness among the elderly about the importance of vaccination

Pedra Badejo, May 7 (Inforpress) - The National Health Directorate, through the Elderly Health Programme, today held an awareness-raising meeting in Santa Cruz (Santiago) on the importance of vaccinating the elderly, as part of African Vaccination Week 2025.

Speaking to the press, the coordinator of the Elderly Health Programme, Natalina Silva, said that this meeting aims to raise awareness among civil society, families and the elderly themselves about the importance of vaccination in this age group, in order to prevent some of the diseases that accompany ageing.

According to her, vaccination is protection for the elderly person, their family and society as a whole.

He added that vaccines such as flu and hepatitis B, given to people aged 60 and over, help prevent serious illnesses, strengthen the immune system, reduce the burden on the health system and improve quality of life.
