Researcher Supports the Use of Mobile Phones as a Research Tool in Classrooms from Grade 6 Onward

Praia, 13 August (Inforpress) – Today, the researcher Neusa Correia Lopes argued that the use of mobile phones as a research tool during lessons by pupils from Year 6 onwards would be appropriate, but subject to rules laid down by the teacher.

Speaking to Inforpress, the teacher, researcher and senior official at the Ministry of Education argued that, when it comes to the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the classroom, the use of mobile phones would be “appropriate and essential during lessons”, emphasising that this should be based on established rules and supervised by the teacher, given that, in this digital age, research is carried out online.

She pointed out that “physical copies are hardly ever required in some classrooms or libraries any more”, based on her observations, she continued, drawn from her visits to classrooms last academic year, where new technologies had been introduced into the teaching and learning system.

In this regard, she emphasized that the use of mobile phones in schools will depend on how they are used and what the rules governing their use are, whilst pointing out that she is faced with the fact that there are still classrooms lacking in digital tools.
