Portuguese President calls for closer cooperation with Cabo Verde and for Portuguese to be recognised as an official language at the UN

Praia, 22 July (Inforpress) – The President of the Republic of Portugal called on Tuesday, in Praia, for closer cooperation with Cabo Verde and reiterated his call for the Portuguese language to be included among the official languages of the United Nations.

During a joint press conference with his Cape Verdean counterpart, José Maria Neves, on the first day of his state visit to Cabo Verde, António José Seguro stated that the relationship between the two countries is based on a long-standing friendship that goes beyond economic indicators.

"Friendship cannot be quantified. GDP can be quantified, trade can be quantified, investments can be quantified, but what endures is friendship, appreciation, and admiration," he stated.

The Portuguese head of state highlighted the oceans, the blue economy, health, education and the digital transition as priority areas for deepening bilateral cooperation, advocating a sustainable development strategy that balances economic growth with the preservation of marine resources.
