Porto Novo, Sep 11 (Inforpress) – Santo Antão will be, within three years, a “more attractive and competitive” island for private investment, especially in the fields of agriculture, industry and tourism, said the Minister of Agriculture and Environment, Gilberto Silva.
Gilberto Silva, who is visiting Santo Antão, says he believes that the planned investments in this island by 2022 in water and sanitation will allow the attraction of private investments, thus contributing to the economic development of this region.
As an example, he explained, the Santo Antão water and sanitation project will solve “the emergency situation” of sanitation in Porto Novo, as an insufficient and obsolete sewage system, which has conditioned the implementation of private investments in the municipality.
With the 12 million dollar funded project launched this week in Porto Novo, about 90 percent (%) of the island will be covered by drinking water, another “gain” that, in his view, will make Santo Antão more attractive and competitive. According to Gilberto Silva, these are “quite structuring” investments in these “key sectors” of the island’s development.
