Porto Novo: Local Government and Cape Verdean Caritas Join Forces to Relocate the Pascoal Alves Community

Porto Novo, Aug. 09 (Inforpress) – The Porto Novo municipal government and Caritas Cape Verde have decided to join forces to rehouse families still living in the isolated family of Pascoal Alves, in the interior of the municipality of Porto Novo, on Santo Antão.

Three of the families will move into their new homes within four months in the Ponte Sul area, seven kilometres from the city of Porto Novo, where three homes are being built to be allocated to these families as part of a partnership between the local government and Caritas Cabo Verde.

Construction on the houses began today at a ceremony attended by Mayor Elisa Pinheiro and João Ramos, a representative of Caritas Cabo Verde, as well as members of the community.

João Ramos explained that Caritas Cabo Verde, together with its counterparts in France and Niger, managed to raise more than one thousand contos (370 contos per home), funds that will be used to build the homes.
