Porto Novo: Lack of water for livestock farmers in North Plateau is stark, according to UCID leader

Porto Novo, Mar 17 (Inforpress) – The lack of water for livestock farmers in the North Plateau of Porto Novo, in the island of Santo Antão, is, at this time, “stark”, in the opinion of the president of the Independent and Democratic Cabo Verdean Union (UCID), António Monteiro.

António Monteiro, who was in the last days visiting Santo Antão, says he found livestock farmers in North Plateau are experiencing “great difficulties” in terms of water at this time, when the drought is a reality in that area.

“It is a serious problem that should be given special attention by the Government,” noted the UCID leader, acknowledging, however, the “effort” of the City Hall of Porto Novo and the delegation of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment (MAA ) in supplying water to farmers.

The amount of water available is, however, “insufficient” for the livestock farmers needs, who are currently experiencing a “stark situation” in this regard, warned the president of UCID, who defended the need to guarantee “consistently” the water supply to these livestock farmers.
