Porto Novo, Dec 12 (Inforpress) – Porto Novo is one of the municipalities that, by 2020, will receive investment in the water and sanitation sector in Cabo Verde, which exceeds 5 million escudos, according to the National Water and Sanitation Agency (ANAS).
Of this amount, 3.9 million escudos will be used for investments in Santiago’s water production and distribution system and implementation of plans to improve the management of dams, boreholes and watersheds, while 53 million escudos will be invested in “improving the conditions of sanitation”in the city of Porto Novo.
According to the agency, these investments represent 6.9 per cent (%) of the overall amount of the State Budget (2020) and an increase of 52% over the year 2019.
The young people have been urging the municipality and the government to find a “definitive solution” to the “chaos” that has been sewage management in the city of Porto Novo, with an obsolete network installed for almost two decades that can cover only 20% of this urban center, with ten thousand people.
